When we were preparing to open the doors to Marketplace on Main nearly a year ago, my husband Rod and I wanted to make our store, The Market, the cornerstone of our little enterprise. We also wanted to create something unique and special for our customers , while supporting other small businesses. This led to us to seek out products that were strictly from Montana. Initially, we were concerned that our offerings would be limited, so one of the first steps we took was to become a certified Made in Montana USA retailer.
The Made in Montana program is administered under the Montana Department of Commerce and assists Montana businesses in developing and marketing their products, helping to build recognition for products that are “authentically Montana”. All products accepted into this program are grown, created, made and/or enhanced in the state resulting in 50% or more added value. Individuals and businesses must meet the added value definition in order to display the trademarked Made in Montana image on their qualifying products. (Source: madeinmontanausa.com)
Last March, as registered retailers we attended the annual Made in Montana marketing show in Helena for the first time. Hundreds of Montana producers, makers, and creators display their product lines there. We met so many talented and friendly people who are committed to providing quality products made here in our great state. Relationships have been maintained with many of them and the homegrown supply chain and customer service are top notch. On March 8th Rod, Jacey, and I will travel to the show again to restock favorite products and discover new ones. These treasures will land on our shelves on March 9th, coinciding with our 1st anniversary celebration. Any item you find in The Market on March 9th that boasts the trademarked Made in Montana image will be 10% off. It will be like an in-store treasure hunt!
In addition to featuring verified Made in Montana products from across the state, The Market showcases jaw-dropping talent from right here in Glacier County. I’ve listed those makers below.
